Emergence I brings together four individually painted 2 × 3 inch oil works from Sarmed Mirza’s ongoing Zero Ground: ReGenesis series.

Each painting develops independently through layers of oil paint, gesture, texture and accumulation. Presented together, relationships begin to emerge between the works through colour, movement and form, while each painting retains its own identity.

The work moves between the fragment and the whole: four intimate paintings becoming a larger field through their proximity to one another.

Like the wider ReGenesis series, Confluence I does not begin with a predetermined image. Forms are allowed to develop through the process of making, inviting close looking and leaving space for recognition, association and ambiguity.
