I photographed ‘Murree Man’ in the hills of Murree, Pakistan in 2013. I had never drawn up to that point in my life. In 2015 an illuminating, silent meditation retreat in Scotland rejuvenated my sense of awareness and led me to pursue art.
As I began drawing ‘Murree Man’, I realised he reminded me of my late grandfather who was a sailor.
For years, I regretted never having had a chance to listen to his stories.
I listened as I drew.
The 'Muree Man' drawing was a finalist in Scottish Portrait Awards in 2022.
