Chai That Saved Me
Painting 002 from The 1000 Paintings Project
Original oil painting on archival, museum-grade Ampersand Gessobord, presented in a portable mint tin containing the palette used to create the work.
I have spent years drinking chai while working on creative projects. Strong milk tea, endlessly reheated, always nearby.
At one point in my life, during hand-to-mouth years in Mumbai, cutting chai and vada pav on a dusty side street were often enough to get me through the day. Years later, in Glasgow studios, the ritual continues. Tea between paintings. Tea between thoughts. Tea because I need a break. Tea because the break is over.
This painting is part of an ongoing series exploring observation, repetition, and the emotional residue of ordinary moments.
The tin functions as easel, protective carry case, and display object, carrying traces of the painting process itself through the remaining colour palette.
