Emergence is a large-scale work from Sarmed Mirza’s ongoing Zero Ground: ReGenesis series.

Composed of 204 individually painted oil works, it shifts between the individual fragment and the larger field. Viewed from a distance, the paintings accumulate into an expansive visual ecology. At close range, each remains a distinct work in its own right.

Emergence was exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy, Edinburgh, as part of the 127th Annual Exhibition of the Society of Scottish Artists during the RSA Bicentenary, and has subsequently been shown at Summerhall, Edinburgh.
