Gathering I brings together 49 individually painted 2 × 3 inch oil works from Sarmed Mirza’s ongoing Zero Ground: ReGenesis series.

Each painting begins as an independent encounter with colour, gesture, texture and form. Brought together, relationships begin to emerge across the field, creating rhythms, interruptions and affinities between works that were not originally made to form a predetermined image.

The title Gathering refers both to the physical coming together of the paintings and to the way meaning accumulates through proximity. From a distance, the work reads as a larger visual field. Close up, attention returns to the individuality and physical presence of each painting.

Gathering I has been selected for exhibition with the Society of Scottish Artists at An Lanntair, Stornoway, from 17 October to 5 December 2026.

The work is available to acquire through the Society of Scottish Artists during the exhibition.
